abell 39

G.O Abell in 1976

Understatement: this is faint.

Not the right telescope either. If only I'd used something bigger. Anyway, spread over 2 nights using the whole astronomical darkness on night one and a bit of it on night 2. 7h 30 in total.

A dead star at a distance of 6800 light years and at 2.5 light years radius, this is classed as one of the largest spheres known. The 39th. nebula in George Abell's catalogue of 1966 and 27th. in his 1955 list.
