... and boot directly into lubuntu with no delay.

sudo featherpad /etc/default/grub

so, to choose the first menu item without delay:

GRUB_DEFAULT=0 

GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden 

GRUB_TIMEOUT=0

don't then forget:

sudo update-grub
