Finally got around to the sticky velvet, albeit in a rather minimalist way. A piece stuck opposite the focuser. It makes the original paint inside the tube seem like glossy light grey. I never imagined it would do anything.

It worked. No one more surprised than me. I'm thinking about lining the whole tube.

And...

The circular pattern is much less noticeable, even on an exaggerated stretch.
