<self pity>
 Last night we had a visit from the Mediterranean haze department. Helped on its way by slowly drifting mist, special this time as it was lit up beautifully by the 75% gibbous moon. The sort which gives tantalisingly bright stars between its tufts, clears and then returns in anger as soon as the imaging sequence is re-started. It was amazing to get as many as twelve frames.

At a distance of 13000 light years, it turns out to be one of the oldest and most distant clusters to which we have access. Wikipedia:

Wikipedia
NGC 6791 is an open star cluster in the Lyra constellation. It was discovered by Friedrich August Theodor Winnecke in 1853. At roughly 8 billion years old, and with an iron to hydrogen abundance ratio that is more than twice that of the Sun, it is one of the oldest and most metal-rich clusters in the Milky Way.
